Ultrasonic Inspection (UT) is a method of detecting flaws within a material or to determine the material thickness. Ultrasound is passed through the material via a couplant and is reflected back by internal flaws or the back wall surface of the object. The operator can then interpret these signals using specialist equipment. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to achieve this, typically in the region of 0.1 - 15 MHz.
